Talk Groups (officially known as 口調 tone) are used to determine the dialogue an allied Pokémon will use within dungeons and Spinda's Café. ,

List of Talk Groups

See the following list for a description of all the talk groups in the game. The group used by each Pokémon ID can be seen in their General tabs.

In the base game's context, many Pokémon species are assigned to multiple groups based on gender and form. This is particularly noticeable for Castform, which uses a total of 6 different groups across all of its Pokémon IDs. A searchable Pokémon list can be found on the Bulbapedia page on the subject.

Groups which already existed in Explorers of Time and Darkness received official names in Japanese only, through the games' Official Extra Guide published by Chunsoft in Japan.

Keep in mind the notes only reflect how the groups are used in the base game.

255 主人公 Hero "..." dialogue used by the hero. Also assigned to certain unused/unrecruitable Pokémon, including Primal Dialga. Dialogue strings cannot be changed using SkyTemple.

Talk Message Types

See the following list for a description of all the line types. All the dialogue strings can be seen by double clicking on the main Pokémon drop-down and selecting the Personality Groups tab.

Note that the game uses (hardcoded?) special behavior for certain areas; in boss floors and final treasure floors, the speaking Pokémon always uses their third line in the "Healthy", "Half Life" and "Pinch" categories. In Future World dungeons (Chasm Cave to Deep Dusk Forest), they will instead only use the first and second lines in the three main categories, which most notably prevents the partner from mentioning the hero's name for story purposes.

Type Description
Healthy Used at 81% HP and above.
Half Life Despite the name, these are actually used between 26%-80% HP.
Pinch Used at 25% HP and below.
Level Up Used while an AI-controlled team member levels up. This is with the exception of Special Episode protagonists, which will use their Level Up lines while being directly controlled.
Wait Used by team members while waiting in Spinda's Café or the Crossroads. These lines are usually missing for special talk groups.
Wait Ground Used by team members while waiting in dungeon waypoints. Most commonly uses a copy of the first 2 Healthy lines, but some are actually unique.
